The Flag

I wanted to put up my flag today
To show my support for our democracy
In light of today’s ongoing events.

But then I realized …
The insurrectionists had appropriated the flag
As one of the symbols of their sedition.

So now I can’t fly my flag
Without possibly being seen
As supporting their treason.

How did we come to this?
